Field Marshal Slug - Memorabilia
I am a collector of memorabilia and facts on the band. I saw the band live many times between 1983 to 1985. I was student,[broke but happy] living near Carmarthen in West Wales, i went to a gig and the support band, 'THE SLUGS', made me sit up and take notice ! they had the crowd 'buzzing', there enthusiasm was infectious and very, very addictive ! it was just total madness and so, I became, for want of a better word, a fan of the Fun, just Because they took the Piss out of the music scene. Smelly underpants and all ! this was not normal, this was a paradox. ! 'The most Tounge in cheek bunch of spoof performers i ever did saw' ! ... If you have any info on the band, please contact me: [info@fieldmarshalslug.co.uk] Martin Peters.![Field Marshal Slug lead guitarist Jamie and Simon [Dino] Dale](http://www.fieldmarshalslug.co.uk/images/pictures/bloodSplat.jpg)

The Damned - English / British Punk Rock Band
Exclusive Photographs taken for Impact Magazine.
Date: 1985
Venue: The New Ocean Club, South Wales, UK
They were published in issue 1 in 1985.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I travelled to the gig in the back of an old van (no seats in the back) with the
South Wales Punk Band Field-Marshall Slug. We were allowed in through
the back doors of the New Ocean Club to watch The Damned do their pre-
gig sound check. The band seemed happy for me to take photos while they
practised on stage but their manager got a bit stroppy, saying he wasn't happy
with me taking pictures of the band who were not dressed in their proper stage
gear. Maybe he didn't have a very good grasp of Punk ethics.
The lads from Field-Marshall Slug interviewed The Damned who were very
obliging and answered all of their questions, while I got a few more photos of
them relaxing. We stayed for the evening gig which was excellent - loud and
energetic as a good Punk Gig should be.
Maybe I'll print the full interview here on the site sometime...
It,s always that bloddy Damned stuff ?

- The Slugs were 'arrested' in Cornwall, as they finished a live Set and came off stage. The crowd watched in amazement as eight Police officers took the band off in three police cars to the cells for the night! [if only we had that Rock'n Roll moment on video!!!]. Wow fucking weee [1985 uk tour].
-
- Field marshal Slug played a festival in the summer of 1985 in mid wales as 2nd top billing, so to celebrate this promotion to the big time Jamie Slug had the bright idea to create the spectactular visual opening to the set, as it had just reached sunset and the lighting would show off the swarm of tiny feathers released out of a large duck down pillow.. yes it looked fab, went down very well with the crowd, but did not go down too well with the stage crew as all the feathers ended up getting into all the electric equiptment on stage and causing a Panic. "Don't you ever do that again you fucking twat" was the general roadie shout as they came of stage. But boy did it look cool. [all the monitors needed a major internal clean..fucking great !]

-
- The Punk+Rock nite at St Dogs was stopped by a riot of major fighting between Bikers and Punks. The Headliners Field Marshal Slug came on stage and 'cooled' things down with a Fun Storming set and all went home happy and freinds. [but somewhat bruised] I think the Slugs manager at the time [Barry Davies] started a bit of a Ruk with the promoter cos the slugs were blamed for the fighting and were not going to be paid, so he ended up sticking one on him ! and he did get paid in full.. result all round. Blood off stage Please note ...
-
- Warner Bros would have signed the band if 'Glam Bang' sold more than 1'000 copies of the single in the first month of release..it was 196 short.. [fuck I would have bourght the rest me self [j.c]
